Georgia may be without Carson Beck for College Football Playoff because of elbow injury

Georgia is preparing for the College Football Playoff without the start quarterback Carson Beck , who underwent a UCL injury to his throwing elbow in the last game against Texas in the SEC Championship game. It happened on the last play before half time and Beck has been looking for ways to treat it while his team readies for a Sugar Bowl game January 1 against either Notre Dame or Indiana.

While Beck went back to the bench during the championship game in Atlanta he was allowed to come back in the game but he could not do so. When the first string quarterback was injured in the game, Gunner Stockton, a backup quarterback was able to take charge and get the Bulldogs a victory against Texas to culminate a conference championship. Later on, head coach Kirby Smart said that Beck struggled to hold the football at the half time. However, Beck came back for one play on overtime just to hand the ball to Trevor Etienne to score the winning touchdown.

Observers of the team say that Beck has not taken to practice with the Bulldogs as they get ready for the playoffs. His family is talking with doctors to decide what to do next, which is to possibly have surgery done on the boy. Without Beck, the Bulldogs are going with sophomore Gunner Stockton as the signal caller the rest of the way through the playoffs.

The Bulldogs are now planning for playoffs and expect Carson Beck will not come back this season. Especially bad timing for Beck who had been predicted by some to be a first round NFL Draft pick.

For now, though, Fans have shifted their focus on another Arsenal figure, Gunner Stockton. In the second half of the SEC Championship, Stockton passed for 71 yards and will be counted on to carry Georgia’s offense to a national championship.

Smart said he has no doubts about Stockton’s readiness for the job, adding that although his skills are not the same as Beck’s, the team is ready for this change. “We do not necessarily believe we have to come up with some radical shifts,” Smart added. ‘Gunner for instance is both an athelete and intelligent and the team has alot of confidence in him”.

It remains unclear how fit the versatile playbook is in Stockton, but the team’s offensive coordinator, Mike Bobo, and the staff have been trying to adapt the offense to Stockton. “It’s about getting the mix right,” Smart said further noting that the team will have to make some changes but is positive.

Outlook towards the Sugar Bowl

Come this game against either Notre Dame or Indiana, the faces Georgia will present on the other side will have to brace for an Attack led by Stockton in place of Beck. This appeared not to be the best preparation Georgia had anticipated for the post-season, but the time the two have had to match has helped them make the necessary changes.

Georgia is still eager to gun for a national championship despite the scourge courtesy of a robust team and a competent backup quarterback.
