Iconic Football Drama Gets Reboot: Is It a Good Idea?

That means true fans of the beloved TV series Friday Night Lights will be able to look forward to a brand new series of the show soon. It was in November 2004 that rumours cropped up that there were plans in the making to remakes the much watched Texas high school football drama. That is why many fans of the movie also remain in the middle of the road raising issues as to why the directors had to take back to this great movie in the first place.

The Reboot Takes Shape

Deadline reported that the new series of Friday Night will be aired from Peacock as expected because Peacock is owned by NBC which produced the series. Following the story from the Nick, the sports section of the reboot will centre around a high school football team and an interim coach with the team as they try to come back together in the wake of a hurricane in order to secure a Texas High School State Championship. The story is trying to tell one of hope and strength and to try and seek out the essence of what made the game so special.

A Risky Undertaking?

Thus, one wonders whether rebooting such popular series was the best idea for the producers. The original Friday Night Lights starring Kyle Chandler is one of the few shows that fans argue needs no improvement. It helped fans understand that it doesn’t require a modern spin at all. Of course there have been poor remakes for Hollywood, the Red Dawn remake anyone? That stumble should remind producers that it is a risky business to meddle with beloved operas.

This fear among fans is that the new version might not stand to the test of the original show and so may bring the reputation of the latter lower. What the reboot may have was novelty and new ideas and of course new points of view on all those stories but only time would tell whether it could replicate the phenomenon that was ‘CR’. However, whether or not this is the case remains to be seen since it represents something of a gamble in terms of fan satisfaction or not.
