Novak Djokovic refuses to give interview following the Australian Open over comments made by the broadcaster.

This quartet of results and particularly Novak Djokovic unfollowing his 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Swiss Stan Wawrinka on Saturday night acting strictly according to a principle chose not to go for the traditional post match interview on the court. The Serbian star’s decision was as a result of unprintables uttered by a broadcaster affiliated to Channel 9 that was part of the tournament’s broadcast team.

He spoke about it when he was being interviewed after the match against Jiri Lehecka. He said that the broadcaster had not only offended him, but disregarded the only Serbian viewers who are loyal to the show.

“It is disgraceful – just few days ago one specialist sport journalist from Channel 9, in front of Serbian fans, laughed at them, used very bad words and insults against me,” Djokovic said. “To date neither he nor Channel 9 has tendered an apology to the public.” Because they are the official broadcaster of the event I did not talk to them as much as I otherwise would do.”

The Incident That Triggered Controversy

The event happened when Tony Jones, one of the Channel 9 reporters, was making a live cross outside Rod Laver Arena and was confronted by a group of Serbians cheering for Djokovic. Jones pretended to join in the chanting saying, “Novak is overrated … Novak’s a has-been … Novak, kick him out.”

Jones’ remarks can be considered as rather inappropriate and / or irrelevant. They also negated the historic winning tendency of Djokovic. As a six-time Australian Open winner Till now he has totted up 24 Grand Slam titles which makes him towering figure in men’s tennis. He alone has recorded 10 Australian open titles, which has earned him the record holder on the number of titles offered by this event.

It’s been changed to ‘kick him out’ I think, since in 2022 early, when Djokovic came to Australia, he’d arrived and hadn’t been vaccinated against Covid. He did not play that year, but was back power in 2023 to successfully defend his championship with a win over Stefanos Tsitsipas in straits. His shake of the year, yet it’s what puts him at the top and different from competitors is his dedication to ensuring he is one of the best athletes in the world.

Support for Djokovic

Whereas ordinary people and sports commentators have taken time to challenge athletes for daring to protest against broadcasters, the same people have supported Djokovic in this regard. The refusal by Channel 9 to take responsibility for their actions and Jones not apologizing to Djokovic has only continued to make the public side with the tennis player.

The tennis star’s decision not to interact with the network proves his continued stand against the fight for his honor and the honor of his fans. They also provide a caution that even causal acquaintances and interactions with those important to the execution of innovative regulatory policies,Wes and those who give it life, means broadcasters, imply a social obligation to professionalism coupled with respect.

A Champion Beyond the Court

Djokovic’s decision to avoid the interview may not only give rise to the debates about the media’s responsibilities and athletes respect and or disrespect. Djokovic who has set numerous records and unveils his unyielding personal principals, remains the best epitome of a good sportsman in today’s tennis arena.
