Is This the End? Aaron Rodgers Faces Career-Defining Moment in Jets Finale
With Jets taking a trip to the Dolphins for their season finale, the focus this week rests with Aaron Rodgers, whose NFL career could be reaching its twilight. The regular season finale at MetLife Stadium could also be goodbye for both a frustrating Jets campaign and Rodgers playing a down of football.
A Season of Reflection
At 41 now, Rodgers is no stranger to the rumors regarding his playing career. Addressing the media this week, the 4 times MVP admitted to the fact that this moment was particularly special, because of the emotions tied to it. “This game has given me a lot,” Rodgers said. Yes, I have paid my dues to it and I am grateful to it. You will notice that I attempt to focus on the present but this has been a long career.
Although there have been some fluctuations during the current season, Rodgers has shown himself to still be a talent performer. Currently with 3,623 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in the Week 18, the veteran stands proof of his resilience and work ethic. But with the Jets at present having a 4-12 record and living in what seems like limbo, this prospect is not lost on Rodgers.
Gratitude and Legacy
Rodgers was positive when expressing himself about his career and all the years he has spent benefitting from it. “I am very happy with what I’ve been able to contribute and be a part of what has been done and achieved,” he said. I also expect a good break on the mental and physical wellbeing front as well.
New York Jets Interim Head Coach Jeff Ulbrich commended Rodgers, focusing on the importance of his role Speaking on Rodgers’ contribution to the Jets, Ulbrich said that it is super important. “Just to be a small part of his story is an honour,” Ulbrich said. “Even if this is his last game of football, he will go out playing as the champion.”
The Road Ahead
While Rodgers has shown he still has what it takes to compete, the question remains: How many more years of football does he want? There is much uncertainty as to what he will do next: released, re-sign with the Jets, or sign with another league team. But if he opts for free agency, Rogers is certain to attract interests from teams that will want to harness abilities as well as leadership from him.
Outside football, Rodgers has suggested a tensed number of career paths he wishes to take after his footballing career, these include media and public service. The brain and passion he displays in his pursuits mean that a rich second career is in store for him, regardless of his NFL future.
A Career Worth Celebrating
As Rodgers leads the team against Dolphins, people, teammates and opponents will of course and would usually recall the significance of a quarterback who will likely end up being part of the Hall of Fame. His driving passion throughout the years of his career can be described as accuracy, endurance and love for the sport.
At the moment however, Rodgers is content to more of the moment and embrace it. “I have come to accept the current state of affairs,” he said. “If change is going to happen I just want everyone to know that personally I am grateful for the experience I have had here.”
Whether it was the final curtain at Lambeau Field or just another stop on the Rodgers’ Journey, it will go down as a Mass milestone..
