For the second consecutive year, a Super Bowl victory parade has been disrupted by gun violence. This time, a shooting occurred near the Philadelphia Eagles’ championship celebration, leaving two people injured.
Details of the Shooting
According to multiple reports, including Fox News, the incident took place near the 2300 block of Ben Franklin Parkway around 2:35 p.m. on Friday. Philadelphia Police confirmed that two women were shot outside the designated parade area.
- A 27-year-old Hispanic woman sustained a gunshot wound to her left leg.
- A 20-year-old Asian woman was shot in the upper left thigh.
Both victims were transported to Presbyterian Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities have yet to locate a crime scene or recover a weapon, and no arrests have been made. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Shooter’s Identity and Motive Remain Unclear
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, an argument preceded the shooting, and the suspect was reportedly wearing an Eagles jersey. However, Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore stated that the connection between the victims and the shooter remains unknown. Details about the argument’s cause have also not been established.
Comparison to Kansas City Chiefs Parade Shooting
This incident follows another tragic shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, which resulted in one death and 22 injuries, including 11 children. While the Philadelphia shooting was less severe, it still raises concerns about safety at large public celebrations.
Thankfully, both victims are expected to recover, and authorities continue their investigation to bring the shooter to justice.
