Angel Reese Earns New Nickname Ahead of Unrivaled League Debut
Chicago Sky star Angel Reese, known for her dynamic skills on the court and vibrant personality, is gearing up for the inaugural season of the Unrivaled basketball league. True to her evolving journey, Reese has earned a fresh nickname that reflects her current chapter in Miami.
During her college career at LSU, Reese became known as the “Bayou Barbie,” a nod to her unique pregame ritual of wearing makeup, combining style and grit. After being drafted seventh overall by the Sky in 2024, she embraced the nickname “Chi Barbie,” symbolizing her new identity in Chicago. Now, as she prepares to compete in Miami, her Unrivaled league team, Rose BC, has christened her “305 Barbie,” a tribute to Miami’s iconic 305 area code.
Rose BC announced the nickname with a video of Reese training alongside her teammates, captioned: “305 BARBIE LOCKED IN.” Reese’s ability to take on the culture of where she is is strongly highlighted by this moniker.
The Unrivaled league officially starts January 17 and will run through March 17. The league, showcasing six teams in a 3-on-3 format, promises fast-paced action and star-studded rosters. Reese is part of the Rose BC squad, which features prominent WNBA players Chelsea Gray, Brittney Sykes, Kahleah Copper, and Lexie Hull. They are led by coach Nola Henry, a respected figure in the basketball community.
Reese and Rose BC are set to play in the league’s season opener against Vinyl BC, a formidable team featuring stars like Arike Ogunbowale, Jordin Canada, Rhyne Howard, Rae Burrell, Aliyah Boston, and Dearica Hamby. Adding an intriguing twist to the matchup, Vinyl BC is coached by Teresa Weather spoon, Reese’s former coach with the Chicago Sky.
With Reese’s star power and the excitement surrounding the Unrivaled league, fans are eagerly anticipating the action-packed season. Whether she’s “Bayou Barbie,” “Chi Barbie,” or “305 Barbie,” one thing is certain: Angel Reese continues to shine, both on and off the court.
